How to Book for Your Pet
Domestic flights with Virgin Australia will only accept a maximum of two (2) pets per flight. For additional pets, exceeding this amount, please contact Virgin Australia or Pacific Blue Freight.
Unfortunately, if you do not book your pet through the Guest Contact Centre, we will not be able to take them on your flight. They will be sent as freight, on a different flight, at a higher fee.
Conditions of Pet Travel
Please note we only accept domestic dogs and cats for pet travel. For any other type of animal, please contact Virgin Australia or Pacific Blue Freight.
We only offer pet travel on our domestic flights within Australia. To arrange overseas travel with your pet, please contact Pacific Blue Freight.
Pets travel in the cargo hold, except for authorised guide or hearing assistance dogs.
To travel with us, your pet must:
- Appear to be in good health.
- Be not unduly aggressive.
- Be over 8 weeks old. This is due to possible dehydration while travelling. For dogs or cats under 12 weeks old, we recommend you obtain a veterinary certificate, as some breeds are more susceptible to dehydration.
- Be housed in a container which complies with the Virgin Australia and Pacific Blue Pet Cage Requirements.
You can take up to 2 pet cages per Guest travelling, with up to 3 pets per cage. If there is more than one dog or cat in the cage, they must be: - All from the same litter.
- Under 6 months old.
- Under 14kgs each.
Animal Health In-Flight
Your pet could get dehydrated when flying, so it is very important to ensure it has had some water prior to being checked in.
If your pet appears unwell or dehydrated on check-in, for the animal’s benefit, we may refuse carriage on the flight.
Quarantine Restrictions
Some animals are restricted from travelling between states and countries. For more information on interstate and international quarantine restrictions, visit the AQIS website.Guidelines for Pet Containers
