What's Allowed
- You can check-in oversized baggage provided each item does not exceed 32 kg in weight. If it is heavier than 32kg, it must be shipped as Freight.
- Checked-baggage amounts of more then 23kg should be split across several bags to prevent injury to our Ground Staff.
- Non-Standard baggage items that are not Sporting Equipment or Infant items are weighed at check-in and charged according to their actual weight. This includes musical instruments.
- Your Wheelchair/Mobility aid is carried free of charge if required for personal use when you’re booked to travel on one of our flights.
Maximum length of baggage items:
Pacific Blue fly a number of different kinds of aircraft, all of which have slightly different operational limitations which affect the weight and size of baggage the aircraft can carry. Accordingly, Pacific Blue may carry items up to 3.00 metres in length, depending on the aircraft type.In all cases, Pacific Blue will make all reasonable efforts to transport oversized items on the same flight as you, but we cannot guarantee that this will be the case.
There is a limitation of 2 electric wheelchairs / mobility aids per flight due to restrictions in our aircraft hold space. The maximum dimensions of electric wheelchairs/mobility aids that can be carried on our aircraft are: 125cm in length, 100cm wide and 84cm in height
All items must be properly packaged – meaning it will not cause damage to our aircraft or other Guest’s baggage
Sports Equipment
Sports equipment counts as part of your free baggage allowance. Each item individually represents 5kgs of your free total baggage allowance, regardless of the actual weight of the item.
For example, a bike that weighs 10kg will represent 5kg of your free baggage allowance. If your allowance is 20kg, you will have 15kg left for other items. These items include but are not restricted to:
- Bikes
- Golf clubs
- Snow skis
- Surfboards
- Cricket/tennis bags
Infants Baggage
Guidelines
Specific Infant equipment is carried free of charge on Pacific Blue flights. All other infant baggage will be included as part of the parent or guardian’s baggage allowance.Items of Infant equipment include but are not restricted to:
- Pram/stroller
- Portable cot
- Car seat
- Baby capsule
Carry on baggage
If you are travelling with an infant you may carry on an extra bag containing articles for use in the cabin such as nappies or baby food.Travelling with a Bike
If the bike is not packed according to our requirements, or you are later than one hour, we will not be able to take your bike on board.
You should pre-purchase a box and pack your bike at least 24 hours prior to departure to ensure it is ready on time.
You can buy bike boxes at any of our airports for $15.00.
Tools
Tools you’ll need to disassemble most bikes are:
- A set of Allen keys.
- An 18mm adjustable spanner (long handled preferred).
- 2 x 12 inch adjustable wrench (long handled preferred).
- A set of Phillips head & Flat head screwdrivers.
- Packing tape.
- Black marker pen.
- Can of CRC or WD-40 (for seized nuts/bolts etc).
We may have these available for borrowing but we advise that you bring your own.
Disassembling
Generally, the following applies to disassemble your bike:
- Remove front wheel.
- Remove back wheel if necessary (easiest if the bike is in the highest gear).
- Remove pedals.
- Lower or remove seat post (don’t forget to mark it before moving it!).
- Turn handle bars sideways and tape to the frame, ensuring the front forks are secured.
- Remove any accessories (e.g. front carriers).
- Deflate the bicycle tyres.
Packing
When packing your bike remember to:
- Put the frame in the box (Of course!).
- Put the wheels in beside the frame.
- Place any accessories in the box (ensure that only bike parts are packed in the box).
- Seal, label and tag the box.
- Ensure no part of the bike is protruding out of the box.
At the Airport
Depending on the airport, our staff will ask you to do one of the following:
- Line up as normal and check-in.
- Check in at the service desk or designated counter.
- Check-in at the oversized baggage counter or designated counter.
Other Items
The only item that can occupy a seat (apart from a Guest of course) is a cello. To book an extra seat for your cello please call the Guest Contact Centre .
Wheelchairs/mobility aids are carried free of charge when required for personal use by the guest who is travelling.
